Roxanne's story

Roxanne

After receiving support with her interview skills, Roxanne secured employment in insurance.

Roxanne, a 23-year-old from Swansea, had recently moved back to Wales after completing a degree in Business Economics at a university in London. She faced challenges when it came to securing a job.

Roxanne found she consistently reached the final interview stages but struggled to secure a position. Roxanne’s Universal Credit officer recommended that she reach out to Working Wales.

Interview support

She was offered an appointment with Aaron, an Employability Coach. Together, they identified a key area of improvement in her interview technique.

She shared: “Aaron and I went through a mock interview process. We recorded my responses and reviewed them to see where I was strong and where I needed improvement.

“We specifically worked on the STAR (situation, task, action, result) technique. This helped me feel much more confident going into my next interview.”

Securing a job

Shortly after their sessions, she secured a job with ERS Insurance. The company specializes in agricultural machinery and supercars.

Roxanne said: “We practised the interview technique the day before my actual interview. It made all the difference. I was confident in my answers, and I knew how to present myself well.”

She is looking forward to her new role as a claims technician and views it as a stepping stone in her career journey.

Advice for others

Roxanne encourages others who are struggling to find employment to be open to support.

She said: “It is okay to ask for support. I think a lot of people in their twenties feel pressure to do it all on their own. But services like Careers Wales are there for a reason.

“Be honest with your adviser about your situation - that is when you will see the best results. I would really encourage others to take advantage of the support we have in Wales.”

She added: “Aaron was very kind and helpful. His support really made a difference in helping me prepare for the job I wanted.”
