If you are leaving school, find out how, as a former pupil, you can help pupils at your old school.

Alumni (former pupils) can raise pupils’ awareness of the careers opportunities out there. There are a lots of ways that alumni can get involved with their old schools. This could be:

  • Getting involved with careers activities
  • Sharing your stories with pupils
  • Offering work experience or shadowing opportunities
  • Giving presentations

Read about Ashleigh’s alumnus story

Ashleigh volunteers at her former school. She helps current pupils be more engaged with their career decisions.

Ashleigh Davies left Cyfarthfa High School in Merthyr Tydfil in 2015. She is now an engineer. She helps design systems for buildings, such as heating, cooling, and ventilation.

What Ashleigh offers

Ashleigh believes everyone, whatever their background, should be able to learn about the variety of jobs out there.

Ashleigh volunteers at her school by helping with mock interviews. She also gives question and answer sessions about her job and what it involves.

Ashleigh said, “After to speaking to others at work, I learned they were exposed to lots of different types of jobs during school. Many of them went to private schools.

“It does not matter about your background or where you went to school. It is important every child has the same opportunity to learn about career options.”
