Careers support helped Mollie secure a new role.
Mollie lives in Cardiff and works in communications. After leaving her full time role, she felt unsure about her next steps and found it difficult to find new opportunities.
She said, “I quickly realised the job market had changed a lot. I was finding it really challenging, and I’d lost a lot of confidence.”
Alongside this, Mollie found interviews particularly difficult, which made the process even more challenging.
Reaching out for support
While looking for advice online, Mollie came across Careers Wales. She decided to get in touch.
She booked an appointment and met with a careers adviser, Louise.
Mollie said: “I thought, why not? I had nothing to lose by reaching out. But Louise was just brilliant. She helped me in every way really.”
Building confidence and skills
Mollie’s first session focused on reviewing her CV and tailoring it for applications. Over several sessions, Louise also supported her with cover letters and helped her prepare for interviews. She also arranged a mock interview.
Mollie said, “It felt like a real interview, and at first I was nervous. But afterwards I realised I’d done really well, and that really boosted my confidence.
“Louise helped me think of interviews as telling a story, which really changed how I approached them.”
Finding the right opportunity
With ongoing support, Louise helped Mollie identify and apply for suitable roles. She found an opportunity that matched Mollie’s experience and encouraged her to apply.
Mollie said, “She helped me tailor my application and really stand out.”
Although this initial application didn’t work out, Mollie was later contacted again when a similar opportunity became available.
Moving forward
Mollie is now working in a communications role for one of the biggest community funders in the UK. She is really enjoying the role.
Mollie said, “I’m really enjoying it. I feel much more confident now. I wouldn’t be where I am now without that support.”
Reflecting on her experience, Mollie encourages others not to give up.
“My advice for anyone in a similar position would be to not give up. Job hunting nowadays is a marathon, not a sprint. You'll have a breakthrough when you least expect it."
